Lately I have seen several quilts made entirely from neutrals (white,
off white, light creams to creams and light golds). They were great
and brought an idea to mind.
Sometimes I want to just sew something without much thinking. I am
planning to choose a simple pattern and start making blocks in these
nuetral colors. No planning, just sewing lots of blocks. The next time
I need a wedding gift I will not spend so much time worrying about the
bride's colors. I will choose ready made blocks from the "neutral"
box, sew them together, add a neutral border and send it to the long
arm quilter with a neutral backing.
This also gives me an excuse to look for more neutrals when at the
LQS!

Susan, I love your plan. Since you're collecting neutrals, have you seen
Nancy Crow's 'Crush'. There's an ivory one and another that reminds me of
toast. Sort of like keeping a substantial supply of new needles, I like to
keep some Crush in the pantry. Polly

No, I have not noticed it. Thanks for the suggestion. I will take a
look. As soon as I have chosen a pattern I plan to sort through my own
neutrals and start cutting. If I have a cut stack sitting my the
machine I am more likely to sew on those "just can't do anything that
requires thinking" evenings than to mindlessly watch TV.

Howdy!
This reminds me of an article in July/Aug. QNMag:
She's using her interpretation of "taupe", another neutral.
http://qnm.com/articles/feature302/
There's a growing collection of creams & off-whites in one of my stash
baskets; I'm still thinking LogCabin for this.
When it comes to gift quilts I don't much worry (care) about
the "bride's colors". Not everything should match. And quilts
coordinate so easily. ;-)
Also thinking of the gift bows: some of my friends saved them as a
big wreath (god, where would you hang this monster?), some decorated
a Christmas tree w/ the bows; I stuck mine in a bag, took them to
church school for kids' craft projects (guess I was kinda' neutral about

the bows <g>).

The last time I had an over-abundance of neutrals (is there REALLY such
a thing?? LOL) I did a crazy quilt ... there wasn't enough yardage
(mostly scraps) to do a traditional patchwork quilt. It really turned
out better than I expected ... and best of all, I didn't have to follow
a pattern! :)
Oh, and my daughter, about 6 at the time, got to pick out the charms
and doo-dads for it ... made a very nice "bonding" session! :)
Does anyone here enjoy crazy quilting? :)
