Saturday there was an auction in the nearby town where my sister lives. She
and I went, arriving about 30 minutes after it started. There weren't many
bidders compared to other auctions I've been to, maybe 30 people, even
though Saturday morning the weather was still dry. 2 couples were buying
stuff to resell on E-Bay.
When the sewing machine finally came up I bid against 2 other people and I
still got it! $50 for a Singer 15-91 electric sewing machine in a maple
table with a matching bench with the manual and all the attachments, barely
used! I am still thrilled. Today I did a little research on it and found out
it was one of 50000 made in Elizabethport NJ in March 1949. The Singer
Company website lists them by serial numbers. I got it cleaned a little &
threaded today and then sewed a few inches, but I couldn't find my sewing
machine oil so I put it away after that. I'm going to love using it.
I also bought 2 boxes of clothes, mostly wool. I'm washing the first load
now to see if it felts. I've been wanting to try felted wool. The coats &
non-wool items I will give to the Cancer Society shop. I think wool from
coats would be too heavy after it is felted, and besides, they are
beautifully made and it would be a shame to cut them up. I feel a little
guilty about the suits already, but nobody I know wanted them.
