Apropos Doc's search for shiny stuff:

Anybody who can get to the American Museum of Natural History in NY
could look at this personally. The fabric is amazing, even though the
thought of it gives me the creeps.

I went to a fiber arts festival a couple of weekends back, and got to
see live silkworms doing their thing. The demonstrator was describing
how the entire cocoon is spun from a single strand, and that part of
the art is unweaving that cocoon with the single strand intact to be
processed further into silk. I forget the rest; I was on information
overload, and I'm sure it's all online someplace. Neat stuff.

I saw this and just was amazed. I'm not scared of spiders, don't
really mind them as long as they're not on me. And I find their webs
to be stunningly beautiful. But I never, ever dreamed such a thing as
this was possible. Wow. And Gen, I agree -- I also got the giggles
thinking about those tiny little spider harnesses. ROFL.
