it's actually for the class I'm attending at the moment, I decided I needed
to do a class, being entirely self taught, so as I live opposite a JoAnns,
their course made the most sense, the project this time is "Quilt
Interupted" from Phenomenal Fat Quarter Quilts by M'Liss Rae Hawley. I
actually think this quilt is too hard for a beginner class and too non
traditional, it looks like you've done quarter square triangle blocks and
set them diagonally with sashing, but it's actually a block composed of 2
triangles with a strip down the middle, stitching bias to grain. It's not
massively difficult either, but doesn't really teach some desireable skills
such as strip piecing, or quick/accurate triangle methods, I'm pretty bright
and can follow instructions from a book pretty easily, so the class has
given me a lot of confidence, and I have made another quilt along side the
class quilt in the last couple of weeks, and feel I can move on to almost
anything. I think a better class quilt would have been a sampler with some
of the common blocks in it, so you could start with the basics then learn
some shortcuts and so on.
Being slightly insane, I've decided to quilt this with gold thread! (It's
logical, the fabrics are oriental red/green/blue, with gold detail).
I haven't taken a picture of it as I have no where to put a picture, any
suggestions for good online photo albums, my parents are nagging me to put
up some photos of the children!

Hi Anne,
I use www.photobucket.com and don't have any problems with that.
There are others, google photo websites and see what else comes up.
Looking forward to seeing your quilt.

I quilted two quilts for friends and used silver metallic thread to
do a portion of the quilting. I have three different metallics --
Sulky, Madeira and Coats and the Coats is the one that ended up working
the best! If you try out different metallics, remember to buy just one
spool of each at first. I bought several spools of the Sulky -- I had
been using their rayon for embroidery and it worked fine -- when I first
started the quilting and it didn't work so I had to return the unused
stuff which is P.I.T.A. -- LOL. When I returned that stuff, I bought
one spool of Madeira to try. When *that* didn't work, I dug through my
stash and found the spools of Coats metallic silver I had and it worked!
I think this is worth repeating -- when using specialty threads, you
often get the best machine quilting results by having your specialty
thread set up AWAY from your machine -- not on the regular spool
spindle. Metallic and specialty threads like metallics and rayon need
to unwind and relax a bit before going through your machine. To do
this, you can use a large coffee cup sitting up high next to the
machine. Put some sort of "stick" (a wooden skewer works and many of us
already have a package of them) through the hole in the thread spool and
then rest it across the top of the cup so the thread spool is suspended
over the inside of the cup. It helps if you set the cup up at a height
even with your machine's spool spindle. I'm lucky -- I got myself a
multi spool holder for my Janome sewing & embroidery machine. The
holder is attached to the back of the machine and will hold eight or ten
spools of thread with thread guides that are just above the top of the
machine!
AS for photos, I have used Webshots for several years and haven't
had any problems. As someone else said, there are loads of places
available. Let us know when you get photos of the quilt up, OK? I
