So, last night I started doing 1 of 6 paper-pieced blocks...from the "24
musical quilt blocks" book....Decided to try a music themed quilt for
Mother, who is piano player and choir member. I have only done 1 other
paperpieced block, and it was a definite learning experience. Has
anybody else done any of these blocks?? I had never heard of cutting
the actual foundation into more manageable pieces, and some of these
blocks of little itty-bitty sections..yikes!!
So, I'm guessing I should just take it slow and double check everything,
right?? DO you think I should plan on putting bordres on the blocks to
hold down all the ends of the pieces??

Hummm I have that little book but haven't done anything from it. Some
patterns are in sections that are paper pieced and then put together. Some
of the more frugal patterns require you to draw up your own separate piece
from the pattern instead of including it as a separate pattern piece. Don't
forget that on some teeny pieces, you can perhaps just draw the piece. For
example, the bill on a bird could be filled in with a permanent pen instead
of piecing it. Just a thought.

I found my book after you left IM last night, Larisa. I'll be cheering you
on, and making a block here and there, as I'm supposed to make a wallhanging
for my brother for Christmas. I think by next year, I'll have gotten one to
each of the family members...LOL.

Larisa, I'm in the middle of (notice I didn't say "currently working on"
show/hide quoted text
<g>) a paper-pieced picture of a featherweight, a pattern by Cynthia
England. Some of the pieces in there are smaller than the white part of

my pinkie finger; it's driving me nuts! <g> However, breaking a
foundation into more manageable pieces is fairly standard; otherwise
some patterns would be impossible to PP. Best of luck with this!

Larisa,
I have that book too, but have not used it yet. But, I did do a sunflower in a
class and it had to be cut into sections. Before you cut out the sections
areas, it is a good idea (which we were taught) to mark on the lines of your
sections with coloured pencils, eg. on the solid line, mark a couple of dashes
in a colour every few inches or so (different colours for different
lines).....that way it is easy to match up your sections after you are finished
put them together. Hope you can understand that.
