I've enjoyed reading about everyone else's projects so much, I thought
I'd post one of my own.
I'm making 8 matching skating dresses and a boy jumpsuit for a group
event and one different dress for a solo in a Skating show this Sat.
The dark green panne bodysuits for the group event come from Butterick
6787 View E, however, I've had to take the time to convert the pattern
because the fabric has no vertical stretch.
I designed a skirt pattern to replace the one in the pattern. It is
close to A-line to save fabric and longer in the back than front. It
looks fuller than it really is on. Since this is for a learn-to-skate
group, they won't be spinning fast and there isn't too much benefit in
fuller skirts for them.
The skirt fabric has a black background with silver sequins glued all
over. I have my sewer's aid ready, but am dreading the sewing since I
hate how it gums up the machine.
I've been using my new-to-me singer 401a and learning to love it. A
serger would be a better choice for parts of it, but I ran out of
replacement knives and am waiting for my new ones to arrive. I'm hoping
they will come today, since I will need my serger to do the rolled hems
for the sheer skirt layers on the solo dress.
Since Saturday night I've made the 8 group bodysuits and the boy
jumpsuit. I've cut out some of the skirts and the solo bodysuit. I
still have to make 2 more skirt patterns to cover larger sizes that I
didn't have to make for last year's show.
I will be bringing the bodysuits to their practice tonight so I can make
sure they fit before sewing on the skirts. I am down to just under 1
hour per bodysuit now. It has been a challenge since I have a clingy
sick toddler and 3 other kids.
