I have a copy of a pattern that comes from an American mag that I thought I
would like to make, but nowhere on it does it give a size that means the
vaguest thing to me. The lines on the pattern are marked from S to 3 XL.

Can anyone tell me what all these sizes would be in either inches or
centimetres please?

I looked at a couple patterns easily on hand.
It seems:
SX in European size ---32-34
S ---------------------------36-38
M ---------------------------40-42
L-----------------------------44-46
XL---------------------------48-50
That is the largest size on this particular pattern, but I would think it'd
just continue up to 2XL------52-54 and 3XL------56-58.
Hope this helps.

Thank so much. It did indeed help very much. And thanks Beverley for the
Vogue site. I didn't have time to check it out fully last night as a
thunderstorm was brewing and as we've already had 2 machine fried, I had to
log off and pull all plugs out before I had a good chance to see it all.

Vogue has a very nice chart on their tech center pages:

http://www.voguepatterns.com/indexfv.html

Click "Tech Center"
Click "Standard Body Measurement Chart"
Click "Misses/Misses Petite" or Women's/Women's
Petite"

The charts show standard pattern "sizes" along with
chest-bust-waist-hip measurements in both inches and
centimeters.

The "How To Choose Your Size" link has good information on
*how* to measure, and how to best seclect a pattern size.
Vogue uses the standard US pattern sizing AFAIK.

Beverly
