Do you find that using a dress form helps you with fitting the outfits you
make? I have the worst time trying to fit garments on myself. It seems I
spend a lot of time half naked when I'm sewing, fitting and refitting over
and over. Or totally exhausted from putting on and taking off my clothes
repeatedly!

Let you DH/SO/BF help? ;->
Ok, seriously, I don't have a form, but after my DH died I have
seriously considered getting one in order to be able to mark hems. So
far my DDs have been available when I asked, but eventually I will
probably get a good form.

G'day Miriam
Some years ago I owned a dress form and never used it, so sold it at a
garage sale. When DH was alive he was fabulous and did all my fittings,
but now I don't have anyone to do the honours as none of my friends are
dressmakers, they don't even sew on buttons as they fall off, so I take
measurements from a similar garment that is the correct length. I don't
make dresses these days because I never wear them, in fact don't even
own a dress, so a dress form wouldn't be of any help with slacks/jeans.
A dress form takes up lots of space, but If I'm sewing/fitting/sewing
lots then I wear a dressing gown as it's easier to change than several
items of clothing. That's what works for me!

Yes I find dress forms helpful, but NOT for fine tuning fit!
It is impossible to fit yourself!
If you want a dress form for fitting YOU, you need to make a body double
out of duct tape or something. Google 'duct tape double' lots of
versions! :)

Kate, some of us don't have any option but to fit ourselves.......it's a
fact of life and while not ideal, I know I don't have any alternative.
