Hello All,

I have been a Bernina person for many years. My MIL just purchased a
Designer SE and I am intrigued by this machine. Can anyone offer a
comparison of the two brands - those of you that own both top-of-line
machines? I was never impressed with the Designer 1 using floppies.
The technology was always far behind.

I look forward to your replies.

In stitches,
Roberta

Hi Roberta,

I have a Designer SE and love it. My neighbor in Fl (before we moved) had
the Bernina and she loved it. I think one has to be happy with the machine
they chose. I am always going to go with Viking as I think they have
excellent ma. and also they are big in education, which I need.
I also have a Viking serger which is wonderful.

I had a Designer 1 before the SE and you are right about the floppies, I
never understood why they were so far behind, but now they are way ahead.
They have come out with a new Designer 1 with a USB and "some" of the
features of the SE but not all.

A friend of mine had both a Designer (a fairly new one) and a Bernina
200e. She recently sold the Designer and told me it was because the
Bernina embroidery quality was so much better. OTOH, you really have to
consider the cost/quality ratio. $8 - 10,000 is one heck of a lot to
pay for a domestic sewing machine--- Bernina or not. I have 3 Berninas
but have never sewn on a Viking.
