Help! My sister dropped off chiffon pants that she needs hemmed and
pressed for Valentine's Day. The pants are two layers of chiffon
attached to a satin waistband. The drycleaner told her he couldn't
have them ready in time which is how they became my problem. These
pants look like they were rolled into a ball for storing. Seaching
Google with "pressing chiffon" hasn't been much of a help. I don't
know how to press this whispy stuff. Suggestions?

Thanks

I would get them thoroughly wet, then hang to dry. That will be
sufficiently unwrinkled for hemming. Use a warm iron just barely hot
enough to do the trick (better that than make a big hole...OTOH, if you
want no further emergency alteration tasks from sibs...).

Sis oughta hang them up rather than leaving them crinkled in the cat
bed.

Thank you both for such quick replies! I will use a cool iron AND a
pressing cloth. I can tell this fabric will pick up "iron shine" real
fast. Better to be safe then sorry. The fabric care tag reads "dry
clean only" and nothing else. I guess I'll have to buy some chiffon
and make something for myself to get the experience. Maybe a long
skirt with a top layer or two of chiffon. That should be nice for
Spring. :-)

Thanks again.

Hello again,

The pants are finished! I hit them with a blast of steam then hung
them up to dry. So far, so good.

Thanks.

Whether silk or poly chiffon, start with a cooler iron and press
carefully, just like you would anything else. They will probably be a
bit slippery, so be careful.

If a cool to warm iron doesn't take the creases out, try a slightly
hotter iron and a pressing cloth.
