I have managed to get hold of a very good bodysuit block and a
ballroom gown block in an Adult Small size (European 10) - this would
be about 32 inch bust. The gown block has a couple of options - one
for a chiffon skirt which flows out from the hips and another option
for a spliced skirt. The latter is cut lower.
I don't really know what a spliced skirt means. Is it the type of
skirt that is cut into free flowing sections?
I have no pictures to guide me. I am familiar with the bodysuit
because it is basically a sleeveless leotard. The few general
instructions I have tell me that the key to a good fit is to get the
bodysuit right in the first place.
What I would like advice on please is about necklines. The ballroom
block I have is cut for virtually a generous jewel neckline. Should I
perhaps look at a swimsuit pattern for a lower fitted front neckline
and lower back?
I have no sleeve pattern but there are basic instructions. If anyone
can help me there I would be grateful also.
I'm pretty good with measurements but I don't have a body form in this
size - and I am hoping to make a Size 10 as a sample to display at the
next competition. All of the current show-type dressmakers and
designers have either retired or departed - and the dance community
here is desperate!
I used to make men's Latin dance shirts and men's ballroom shirts, but
eventually, of course, the customers gave up or bought theirs from
overseas (the fabric choices here are a bit limited).
I realise that if ballroom gowns I make take off, I will have to
invest in a body form in a smaller size than my current one (that fits
me and I am NOT small) and then pad out to adapt to individual people.
Thanks for any positive help. I am in New Zealand, so am not able to
access outlets in the USA unless they can deal internationally.
