In 1956 I had a 3-year-old flared wool skirt which still fit
me, but was short: Came just to the top of my knees. I
decided to wear it to high school with some color-matched
knee socks. This was in the era of mid-calf length skirts
for girls, it predated mini-skirts by a decade or so. I was
sent home by the principal, and told not to come back to
school until I was "properly dressed". I thought seriously
about changing into slacks, but that was even more forbidden
(for girls) than a short skirt. ;-}
Hysterical, when you consider what the cheer leaders wore.
Yeah, times do change...
