Good Morning,

I am making an infant's Halloween costume (Simplicity Pattern No. 0571
Costumes for Kids). The pattern calls for "12-inch bumpy chenile stems"
(for antennae) and "velvet tubing" (ties) for the hat in "C" (lady bug).

I have asked at the local Joann Fabrics (Auburn, WA) with no luck and wrote
to Simplicity last night; still waiting for their reply.

(As an aside; I am disappointed in Simplicity's instruction sheet and
material requirements on the back of the pattern. It did not say anything
about a lining for the body of the costume on the back of the pattern which
is what I use to purchase my materials and I think the instructions are very
hard to understand.)

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated,

TIA,
Tracey

We used to call chenille stems pipe cleaners when I was young. Check a
craft store; they should have them in the bumpy type.

I don't know where to get velvet tubing, though.

The velvet tubing is usually where the lace and trims by the yard are. The
stuff wrapped around the plastic bolt thingies. Comes in lots of different
colors. I'm in Seattle and both of TSWLH has this in several colors. You'll
remember it as the soft velvet tubes you used to have to tie on your little
rabbit winter hat or the furry collar with the rabbit fur balls on the ends
of the velvet string tie if you were a "little lady" in the 50s......I am
NOT admitting to age, I think I just read about that somewhere *snicker*
