The intention is to create a mild to medium degree of raised
quilting image.

What materials would one use for quilting a simple design into
upholstery weight fabric ? poly-batting, 1/2 inch foam ?

Does the backing layer need to be the same weight of the top
layer ?

Does any one have a link to an example ?

Backing layer is usually a little lighter than the top layer. Poly
batting would be good, couldn't imagine doing it w/ 1/2" foam.
