I've made drapes with block out liner for the bedrooms in my house
that face east. I'm having problems finding curtain rods that can
handle the weight of the curtains. Can anyone please offer any
suggestions and tips?

Have you considered PVC pipe? It's strong and comes in small
diameters. Also, electrical conduit pipe is another strong one.

Thanks for your suggestions. These are tab top curtains so
unfortunately the rod shows. I'm surprised nobody else has this
problem. I've hung it now with a rod from Home Depot but it doesn't
look strong enough to me. There are no weight restrictions on the
package either.

I have lined tab tops in my bedroom. They hang from a wooden pole that
is at least 1 1/2 inches in diameter. The pole sits on very heavy wooden
brackets that I have attached just over the top of the window frame.
I've used the same set up for at least 30 years without a problem. You
probably need something like that.

Jane, I think what you are needing is to replace the screws that came
with your rods. I recommend taking a trip to your local hardware
store and getting some longer screws that have molly bolts on the
inside. The salesman should be able to tell you a little about them.
Any more companies pack their goods with screws which too short, and
they pull out of the wall, sometimes bringing a chunk of wallboard
along with them.
Any more we don't even bother to unwrap the screws that come inside
the kits and we keep a bunch of the molly bolted screws on hand.
