Well, my mother has an Elna (don't ask me for numbers) from the 1960s; I
think she got that one for her wedding. They're Swiss made, I think, and the
one in question has been in use for normal and heavy duty household sewing
since 1966 or so. (I think my mom made a tent on it once, and those were the
days when tents were made from heavy cotton fabric). I'm not sure if she's
100% satisfied with this machine, but that may have something to do with the
fact that she'd never RTFM. Whenever I used it it worked fine, and if it
didn't I'd just adjust thread tension and apply some oil and all was well.
About Vikings I don't know. Hope that helps.
