Hi All,

My DH is flying to the States in a few days time, and will be staying in
Redmond, and working at Microsoft HQ.

He's said he will buy me a present :-) but that I can't have 2.5 miles
of fabric :-(. He has agreed to buy me 2.5 yards though LOL!

So given that my DH is going to be pretty busy while he's in Redmond,
and has a weight limit on his suitcase - where should I send him
shopping for fabric? I'm after good quality cotton for blouses (plain,
stripes or check - not print!), or heavier weight fabric for making
trousers / skirts.

And an OT question - where should DH shop for some RTW clothes for him?
and a present for DD (16mths and growing fast)?

TIA

Sarah

Hi Sarah - I moved away from Redmond 10 years ago (I'm about 30 miles north)
but it doesn't look like the fabric options have improved at ALL since I
left! There is a JoAnn Fabric (the store we love to hate) and Ben Franklin
in Redmond (NE of Microsoft), and a Pacific Fabric with a Bellevue address
(SW of Microsoft but actually a little closer to Microsoft than Redmond).
There is also a JoAnn's Superstore in Crossroads - a shopping center south
of Microsoft. I haven't been in any of these stores in a long time so can't
give you a recommendation for which one to go to. Maybe someone who lives
closer will be able to do that. If I took a guess at which store had better
fabric and selection I would put Pacific Fabric first and the JoAnn's
Superstore second but so much seems to depend on how each store is managed
and I just don't know that about those stores.

I would suggest sending him to the Pacific Fabric store in Seattle.
It's only 20 min. or so from Redmond, maybe 40 minutes or longer
though if he doesn't avoid the heavy rush hour traffic. He'll
definitely want to time his outing to avoid it if he's going to drive
himself. However, there are buses that leave right from outside the
Redmond campus, and go straight to Seattle. He gets off on one of the
first couple stops in downtown Seattle, and there are any number of
buses that head south on the street Pacific Fabric is on, like every
15 minutes or so. It's a very short hop. The buses are excellent
there, at least they were some 3-/12 years ago. He can call the toll-
free bus number any time to ask for the route.

I was just in Seattle and went to the Pacific Fabrics. What a store! It
took me 3 hours to go through it. Great stuff and reasonable.
