I'm shopping for a used sewing machine (mostly on craigslist and Ebay
as we live in the boonies) and am trying to find a web site that will
help me compare used machines. I don't want to rely only on the
seller's high opinion of their machines. When someone claims that
their machine is "Industrial Strength", I'd like to get some reality
on it.

Can you suggest some web sites, books or ??? to help me shop???

Thanks.

Sandy

I think all machine manufacturers have web sites, showing photos and
describing features of each. Some of them have older machines on the site
as well.
I know these are available: www.babylock.com; www.janome.com;
www.bernina.com to name a few. Just GOOGLE a brand and you will reach the
site.

Sandy,
I can't help you with websites for comparisons but the people on the
Viking 1+/Orchidea 'yahoo group' will absolutely stand behind their
machines. The word that comes up frequently is 'workhorse'. What does
that say to you?

I didn't buy the '+' model but the one below it and it is truely fantastic.
The main difference between the two is the true embroidery features on the
'+'.
The #1 does not have the ability to create the embroidery but does have
'pictograms', small design stitches that can be used repetitively alone or
in combination with other 'pictograms' to create decorative designs.

Frankly, from the trouble with updating computer programs and the troubles
it causes to upgrade embroidery programs and associated hardware I wouldn't
want *any* embroidery machine. But that's JMHO.

But as far as information goes, eBay usually has something they call
'guides'. They are put together by eBayers and deal with either just the
basics 'digital cameras' or may have some particulars available on a
specific item ' Apple ipods'.

Hope this helps,

Addendum:

Go on eBay to the 'Sewing Machines & Sergers' under the general 'Crafts'
heading you will find on the left side of the screen a box with guide titles
in it. Follow them for some info.
