ok, I tried playing with my new to me Kenmore serger this morning. I don't
know what I'm doing wrong but the lower looper thread keeps breaking. I kept
replaying the video & as far as I can tell it's threaded right but then
somehow
it came out. I was finally able to get a chain then I put a scrap piece of
fabric
under & it serged for about 2" then broke! it had come out/broken from the
lower looper "needle". I'm so aggravated I don't even want to mess with it
any more today. any tips / hints would be GREATLY appreciated! I want
to get the stupid thing working, I've got some patterns I want to make.

Have you tried with a different spool of thread?? Yours might be old??
Is the tension correct?? It can do that if it is set too
tight........you should be able to pull it through the looper with the
presser foot up.............check to see if there is a piece of thread
stuck in the tensioners that should not be there?? Others will have
more ideas, I am sure, but I hope this will help some.

I was using the tread that came with it but I have other unopened cones.
I set the tension on what the video told me to. who knows what mailing
it did to it. the left side of the casing came loose & I had to pop it back
in place & tighten the screw there.

Make sure the needles are fully inserted.

Check the needle plate to make sure the needle(s) or finger the
stitches form around/over are not broken or gouged.

Rethread everything from the start, making sure to thread everything
in the proper order:
1 - right/upper looper
2 - left/lower looper
3 - right needle
4 - left needle

Set all the tensions at 3.

If this doesn't get you going, you may have to take the serger to a
shop where they give lessons on sergers and/or make repairs.

Whenever you re-thread a serger, you must unthread the needles before
re-threading the loopers. If you don't, the looper thread keeps
breaking.....
