Years ago, I made a simple slip cover for my sofa, which is
Danish Modern style with loose seat and back cushions. The
actual covers are in dark navy hopsacking, and although I
like them a lot, my white Shi Tzu like them even better. In
order to cut down on the time spent getting dog hairs out of
the weave, I made slip covers which are essentially a fitted
sheet, using navy corduroy. Although this works well, and
is easy to launder, the long edges were apt to work their
way out from under the edges, and show. So this morning, I
added a strip of black elastic about 10" shorter than the
total length along the long edges, taut-sewing in place.
Now the edges stay under the cushions.

Well, it's not exactly sparkly red fairy stuff, but it IS
sewing. ;-)

I'll be adding a new section to my web site with pictures of
all the remodeling and redecorating I've been doing all
summer. I'm almost done and looking forward to some serious
sewing soon.

Sounds like a great idea, Beverly.

I do hope I can get back to sewing very soon, finally, if my back will just
cooperate. I've had some problems with my lower left side recently and not
able to do much of anything, especially cutting fabric or sitting at the
machine long enough to accomplish anything.
I saw the doctor Friday and he gave me some ointment samples that's helped
tremendously this weekend; but will have x-rays early next week.

Wheee!

We are hoping to get the conservatory walls painted and finish off the
interior woodwork over the winter, and then park the living room
furniture in there while we do the living room, so I hall have curtains
to make. I also have the fabric for re-upholstering the chairs and the
sofa, and need to find someone to do that for me. I'm just not up to
handling the weight of the sofa, but we shal see...

Right after we returned from Nashville, my projects started
in late July: clear out the living room; remove all
baseboards, stain and Varathane same; paint all the walls,
changing from white to taupe; then family came over and laid
(pre-finished) solid oak hardwood flooring; replaced all the
baseboards; ordered new area rugs; re-arranged all the
furniture placement; gave a fresh hand-rubbed oil treatment
to several pieces of the furniture; faux-painted the large
"faux rock" fireplace, changing it from solid white to
multi-colored "stones"; installed several new lamps and
light fixtures; sanded, stained and Varathaned the front
entry doors; waterproof treatment to the wood deck railings
and outdoor furniture; sealed the driveway;...

Golly, feels like I moved to a whole new house. ;-) 'Course
the yard and garden have been neglected all summer. Pics
on the web site soon.
