I know that it would be AWFUL to ruin my treadle (1948 Singer 15-89)
by converting it to electric, but I am hoping to be able to do it in a
way that I can convert it back again.

I have been searching google for how to do this but all I can find is
the opposite!

Can anyone please tell me what type of motor to use and a basic
description of how to put it on? I can have my father do it for me
and he will be able to figure it out once we have the basic
information.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Michelle

You just need a Singer external type motor and a screwdriver! Take the
treadle belt off, bolt the motor on the machine, and pop the rubber
motor belt in place. You should only have a problem if the machine is
too old to have a mounting point for the motor. This used to be a VERY
common upgrade for both treadles and hand cranks.

Try and find an electric motor version of the manual for the machine,
and look at the diagrams for adjusting the belt, and you'll see how the
motor and belt fit the machine.

Thanks Kate! That was the fastest reply ever (I had just enough time
to read the michael jackson thread & watch the youtube video of
thriller. I have never actually seen it because I was too young in
the 80's. I know I got a pdf of my regular treadle manual from
somewhere, ismacs or singer probably, so I will take a look. This
should be easier (for my father!)

Thanks!

I actually have another question (probably not the last either!).

I found an ebay auction for a sewing machine motor that says the motor
turns counter clockwise but that the seller also has motors that turn
clockwise. Which way do I want to turn? (here is the auction, is
this what I am lookin for?

sorry about the long link) I would like to try to buy one locally
unless someone on the group has one in Canada, I already called & left
a message for my sewing machine guy so hopefully he can get ahold of a
motor for me.

thanks again!
