I have has Marla, my LSF student here again today, working on the latest
project...
The fabric is 'acky-poo', to quote a friend. Navy and white denim weave
silk and viscose mix, so it frays like... Well - dupion comes to mind!
And we have to work with 1cm seam allowances...
The design is really neat: very sharp edged, but soft looking at the
same time. We are piping it in red. :) Red melton behind the revers
(no actual collar, either!) and to face the peplum, red barathea for the
piping as it's more flexible than the melton. The melton is being done
with a raw edge technique to keep it thin and sharp...
I'm putting together the garments, Marla is designing them, cutting,
testing... It's dead cute, really... This is her part of a joint
project, and this acky-poo fabric was chosen by the others. Marla
dislikes it as much as I do. Oh, well! WE'LL BLOW THEM OUT OF THE
WATER WITH OUT SNAPPY DESIGN AND SUPERB SEWING! :)
Marla owns an industrial sewing machine, which is ancient and lovely,
but in a room she doesn't have ready access to right now (in a house her
parents own that is rented out), so needs something to use NOW. I have
sent her home with the fast-and-scary-but-does-a-lovely-stitch Novum
type 15 clone. She can keep it. Not so much use to me: I have others
for fast stuff, and it's too big and heavy to cart back and forth for
the kids to use, and far too fast for them.
Positive achievements:
Given away sewing machine!
Corrected pattern error on skirt
Taught Marla how to make piping...
Turned slight sleeve error into design feature
Have all menus sorted for next week!
Tidied up part of sewing room! (There really WAS carpet under there,
not thread all the way to the center of the earth!)
Negative elements:
Won't have time to swim tonight!
Have HUGE amounts of housework to do because I have neglected it for
sewing this week!
