It's been a long time coming, but I finally got to the sewing room and
did some work!
2 weeks ago I made three car / pushchair seat 'protectors' prior to
taking DD out of nappies and starting potty training. These were simply
2 layers of terry towelling and one layer of rip stop nylon, cut in a
shape to fit DD's car seats, with a 4" long "buttonhole" in about the
middle to accommodate the crotch strap of the 5 point seatbelt system,
and just 4 thread standard overlook serged round the edges to hold the
layers together. I made three on the basis of one in use, one washing
and one drying...... a good rule of thumb with a toddler in the house!
The one that got tested by DD during her nap one day certainly did the
trick I'm pleased to say! Now all I have to do is teach DH which way up
to install them when fitting one to the car seat or pushchair.......
I've also put growth tucks into two RTW dresses supplied by DM that
whilst right at the waist on DD turned out to be ankle length! DD is
just like me, long back, short legs, but these dresses were stupidly
long. And I shortened the arms on a T-shirt for DD that was obviously
designed with a gorilla in mind... the sleeves were longer than the body
of the T-shirt!
Tonight, I cut the sheer curtain fabric to length, rough cut out my 19
butterflies from the leftovers, and cut the curtain material and
blackout lining to length for the curtains. I shall see if DD and DH let
me get to the machines tomorrow to make them!
Sadly my dedicated sewing room is very soon to be a thing of the past,
as it is to become DD's new bedroom, freeing up the nursery room for the
impeding arrival. My sewing room will now be integrated into the guest
bedroom. I'm waiting on my new sewing desk, but have already moved the
stash through, got a bookcase, another desk and the machines to move
still. I want to get the curtains finished before moving through,
because otherwise I can't have my machines set up simultaneously and I
really don't fancy lifting my serger (Huskylock 936) on and off a desk
several times to swap over with the SM whilst I'm making these. DD's new
bed is due to arrive several days before the desk unfortunately.
Happy sewing to all
Sarah
