My trouble is that I really don't collect sewing machines at all...
THEY collect ME, as you can see by the way most of them arrived here!

Julie gave me her Featherweight, and I found the Elna Lotus for her.
She also gave me a 66 treadle that I re-homed to a lass who since carted
it off to Australia. That started the Lotus quest, and I bought two
more for myself.

I gave Mum the Viscount when I got my Lily, but she gave it back, along
with the 99 Frankensinger when I gave her the FW II. That has since
come back and is in transit to Big Sis, who is swapping it for the
Husqvarna that is really too big for her flat. Mum has stopped sewing,
so no longer needs a machine.

Another friend gave me a New Home with separate cams that I have used
with the kids, and subsequently re-homed to one of them! Phew!

Then Chris and Elaine gave me the Bernina and the New Home I've kept,
specifically for use with the kids. While these are larger machines,
the kids love using them, so they will stay and be used by them for many
years to come.

Then Julie found me the Saxonia and the Novum on Freecycle, and brought
them over... I'm hoping to re-home the Saxonia eventually, and stick to
my 'NO MUSEUM PIECES - WORKING MACHINES ONLY! rule, but it's so pretty
it's hard not to keep it, especially when it's another that Alan & I
have both worked on really hard!

The Jones was a birthday prezzy...

Two were donated from Rita's MIL's loft...

The Cub 4's a Freecycle special via Julie!

There's a pattern developing here. I can't bear to let one go without
trying to get it working again! So far all the donated ones have really
cost is an afternoon or so with an oil can, other than the Bernina, that
needed a new foot control. If it was just me using it, I'd probably not
have bothered, but it stopped going slowly, so for the kids I bought the
new foot control... £50 for a lightly used Bernina 1005 has to be good
by anyone's book!

Absolutely! After all, he can only use one rifle at a time... And I
often have 2 or 3 (or even 4!) sewing machines set up for one project!
One on straight stitch for seams, one set up for
zips/buttonholes/eyelets/etc, a serger set up for seaming/neatening, and
another set up for rolled hems. I buzz between them... Rolly chairs
are useful in the sewing room!

See!!! We think so much alike. ;) I do the same thing. You should see
the cat rush out of the way when I start rolling. ;)

He should see some of the collections of the people on the TreadleOn and
ISMACS lists. Some think nothing of a hundred, two hundred, three
hundred machines, other than appropriate storage and display.

Well....see that's what scares me. heh heh He collects "curios and
relics." That means (according to the BATF) either military surplus, or
more than 40 years old (maybe 50 years old....I can't remember, but
something like that.) He is an absolute piker compared to some of the
other collectors. One guy that comes to mind only collects Spanish made
pistols. Last time that guy posted to one of the boards about some new
acquisitions, his collection was hovering around 700. So I'm a little
worried about comparing my collection to his then showing him Kate's list.
All self control might fly out the window on both parts. lol
