My sister in law has announced that she is finally pregnant! She had really
bad fibroids for years though, and so I am thinking I will wait before I
make anything, just in case.

A co-worker of mine who had cysts announced on a monday that she was
pregnant, by that friday she had a miscarriage.

Yes, I think I will wait until she is 6 or 7 months along, and only send the
items after the baby is born, or do you think I should send them about two
weeks before the due date? I just pray that things will be ok, I know my
DSIL really wants it to be ok.

Yes, wait until she is six months or so, but have the stuff ready early.
For instance, I have grandbabies for whom I knitted blankies, and dh
wondered why I rushed to get them delivered a month before the due date.
Each one of them was born from 3 weeks to two weeks early, neither dd
nor dil went the full term.

I wish, I was 3 weeks plus 1 day overdue with the 1st, two weeks plus one
day over due with the second, and exactly one week overdue with the third.

The only reason I wasn't more over due with any of them was because I was so
miserable they induced me for the first one, then for the second one they
induced, and by the third we all saw the pattern and my doctor only let me
go one week over with her. He thinks I may not be able to go into labour
myself, but didn't want to leave me pregnant too long to find out for fear
that the placenta would dry up or not make food, or something like that, I
can't remember exactly what he said. A girlfriend of mine heard some
theory that the human gestational period is getting progressively longer
since aparently women used to be pregnant for less time a long time ago
(like middle ages). I don't know what to think of that really, but it is
interesting to talk about.

I am thinking for DSIL I would like to make a crib set (sheet, blanket,
bumper) a diaper stacker, one of those diaper sorters maybe, a wall hanging,
and maybe matching curtains. Also I am thinking a throw pillow for the
nursury chair (for DSIL) and maybe some sort of wall hanging. All
co-ordinating of course.

The only problem is that no one in their family ever wants to know what the
baby is (I myself was asking to find out from day one!) so I will have to
think of colours that suit both boy and girl, and the parents taste. I
don't know the father all that well since they live about 12 hours away and
I only talk to her when I call (of course!). But I know what she likes. I
am thinking if everything were in a cool neutral set, like dark creams,
grays, browns, greens, maroons. The baby doesn't really have to approve, at
first anyways! By the time it gets older they can change to lively colors,
although since you sleep with your eyes closed you can't see the blanket
colours. I will have to set DMIL to find out for me what they like without
giving away the surprise. If I ask she will know what I am up to.

Michelle - So Excited!

I once made an afghan for a baby using jewel colors - very intense
bright colors. That baby loved that afghan, and it remained his
favorite until he finally wore it out. Of course, it was time to give
it up - 6th graders don't carry afghans to school......

Congratulations - I was so excited when my DNephews were born.

Without wishing to be a shower of rain, wait at least until the all
clear from the scan at 20 weeks. I lost a DNiece at that stage - there
is still a hole in the family.

Personally, I'd go for sending once the baby is born, you can buy the
correct colour (if you're into pink for a girl blue for a boy), and you
can avoid anything your DSIL has lots of!

I ended up with 17 (yes, 17) 3-6month size vests!

Just my opinion, feel free to ignore it!
