The styrofoam heads are cheap here. I had two, then my son took one
(with permission) and used it for an art project in high school - he got
an A on it. I still have the other. It's useful for blocking my felted
hat whenever I wash it. The rest of the time, my straw hat sits on it.
I also have a couple of hat blocks that my mother had about 55 years
ago when she made hats. One is a "pillbox" - a la Jackie O.
