Ladies (and gentlemen), I am in shock. I don't shop for
sewing/embroidery machines, since I've got plenty right here, but I
received an email from a local LQS tonight that has me totally shocked.
They are offering a special sale on their TOL machine, the Bernina 830
- they say "Our Price: $9,999 List Price: $11,999" I've noticed that
most email from various sellers never give the prices on machines - I
can see why! How many people are buying these machines, especially with
the current state of the economy?

Write your congresscritter! If they really wan to kickstart
the economy, forget about $8,000 toward a first home or
$5,000 for trading in your clunker (car), ask them to offer
a $5,000 incentive to purchase a SEWING MACHINE! I'd jump.

But at that price, you'd have to come up with another $5K. With that,
you could buy two Singer XL6000s. It's hard to believe that the Bernina
830 is worth that much more. What does it do? Make dinner? Clean the
house? Change the oil in the car?

Now also consider that likely does not include all the add on items either.
I paid just about $12,000.00 each for my last 2 vehicles new.
It baffles me to pay that much for a sewing machine.
