Well, if it keeps him off the streets, occupies his spare time, and he
has fun, who am I to complain? ;)
And when he's away at camp, Alan and I get a weekend off! :D :D :D

May I offer you some advice from my vast experience? Relish
your time alone with Alan!
DH and I had a short break after the younger DD went off to
college, then we took my father into our home to care for
him. Another short time for just the two of us, following
DF's death, then DD moved back while she finished an
advanced degree program. Another short break when she moved
out, then we took DH's mother and step-father into our home
to care for them. That lasted 6 years, then we had just a
short time alone together again, before DH died. Each of
those short breaks grew our marriage in unimaginable ways,
so cherish them when they happen!

We do! I have lovely memories of last summer, when James was in Biaritz
with the school for a week, for example... This year it'll be two weeks
in August, while he's in Wales. Just happy dreaming of what we might do
right now...

While we have no plans to have either remaining parent live with us (no
room in the house, and no way to adapt or extend to cope with someone in
need of that much care), I do know what you mean. You can't stop them
growing up and leaving home - several times, with some kids! ;)
Empty nest syndrome? I won't have time!

We didn't exactly plan it, but finances (theirs & ours)
pretty much dictated what had to happen when they could no
longer live alone.

We were so glad to have her back for a while, and able to
help her out with advancing her education. But also very
happy when she got her own place again. ;-)

Indeed not, you'll be too busy taking cruises, and traveling
to (insert favorite destination here).
