Thanks, Serge. I'll try that. My daughter, much more computer
literate than I, said she would help. I got to the stage where I was
to highlight the stars before the names of the unwanted posts, and
they did not disappear when I deleted them. Then I gave up until I
saw your post.

if you are reading online through Google Groups, you have no one to
blame but yourself. this is not a moderated group, & Google doesn't
give a rat's ass if Usenet is destroyed by spammers. they do nothing
to stop the abuse.
if you want to eliminate the spam you see, get a real newsreader,
with filters. learn to *use* the filters. i use xNews, which is free
& has excellent filter capability. i rarely see any spam in this
group, or the silly trolls either.
if your internet provider doesn't carry Usenet, there are several
newsfeeds you can subscribe to. the ones you pay for tend to have
better spam controls in place, but there are free news feeds as well.

Terri.
The junk can be a hassle. After being away for 18 days ,I came home
today to find my news group loaded with so much "stuff" I couldn't
believe it, well actually I could. I will not read the group on google
for just that reason. It takes me a little time to go through it and put
what I don't want cluttering up my connection but by using a regular
show/hide quoted text
news reader < news.motzarilla.org > I can sort it out faster and read
the threads I want and put the garbage address in my killfile.

Welcome home, Juno! My we've been a travlein' group,
Sharon, Emily, Juno... who else? ;-)
I agree about using Mozerella, and my filters just keep on
growing.
Beverly, busily making some minor modifications to the kilt,
DGD dances in Vancouver B.C. toward the end of June. Wish I
had my passport. :-(

Thanks Beverly,
I love being away but love to come home, too.
Not having a passport to go to a place that was easy to get to in the
past can be a hassle.
NY has a special driver's license now that can be obtained to cross the
border to Canada, from NY. It cost more than a regular license but less
than a passport. I'm sorry you'll be missing the next competition.
BTW I had lunch at the Captains Table last Tuesday. My CC neighbor and I
went fun shopping and out to lunch.
