I need some sturdy-bottom-weight fabric of a 12- to 14- ounce denim or
equivalently-durable type that is *NOT* blue (I *****HATE***** blue),
hopefully in a medium-intensity shade that will complement a 75%
autumn/25% winter color palette and DEFINITELY that isn't something like
$25 per yard, and I am having a real bear of a time finding something
online. I don't really want to go into the local TSWLTH and look, even
though they just moved and I have to admit the store looks a lot less
trashy in their new location.
Is there a short way to do this apart from requesting swatches? Or does
anybody know of a place that sells it that I could just go there? I
have spent HOURS searching online and looking at all the fabric stores I
know of, and it's making my head spin.
TIA mucho mucho,
Melinda

I'm planning to make my summer slacks from Wm. Booth, Draper's "russia
drill", but I haven't ordered the fabric yet, so I can't tell you how
good it is. It's a light natural tan which I think will go well with
all the shirts I made for the "oakwood" slacks that wore out so quick.
http://www.wmboothdraper.com/ look under "hemp fabrics".
The slacks I made from James Townsend & Son's haversack linen held up
very well, and were very comfortable in hot weather and when I got
drenched by a couple of unexpected events, but they were as ugly as a
mud fence. http://jas-townsend.com/ Color is a dirty gray.

ooooh, that Russia drill looks really good, and for hemp the price is
reasonable, and I like the color.

Somehow I don't think that linen is going to be acceptable. I need
something abrasion-resistant. But gray makes me look like I'm dead
anyway, so maybe it's just as well. :) :) :) :) :)

You probably thought of it, but have you searched specifically for upholstery
denim? That would get you to heavier denims and I know I found a fair number
of them when I was looking to recover our loveseat a couple of years ago.
Shades of blue still dominated, but there were others as well. And of course
if you find white or natural, you can dye it the shade you want.

You know, I have seen upholstery denims, but I have sort of passed them
by because I didn't know how heavy they were.
