I went to Habitat for Humanity's thrift shop here, and came home
with another Singer Futura, under $30.00. It was sale day, so I even
got a discount off of the marked price! Got a box full of accessories,
and what looks like a very-gently-used foot pedal, which I needed for
another Singer.
Looks like the machine will need a timing adjustment as well as a
thorough cleaning, but here is further proof that one need not spend
$1,000.00 to buy a machine with a wide range of features. This is a
good machine to learn on, and one can find similar buys regularly
I'd say these portables are getting heavier, but I pulled a muscle in
my chest wall almost a month ago, and it's not healing. Could be I need
to stay off the roof with rolls of roofing material, and leave the use
of heavy power tools to DS...NOT!!!

Sounds like it was a good buy! :) Have you plans for this one, or will
it just rest up at your place for some TLC and find a niche later?

Well, Kate, lots of good parts, face plates, a buttonhole foot (my
old one wore out from usage--the plastic stop tab on it broke), and a
very usable foot pedal.
I find having more than one machine alike is very valuable, in terms
of inter-changable parts.

Conjoined sewing machines - not so much joined at head or hip, but at
attachments! ;)

Cea,

Now I know which model you're referring to...as yesterday I hit the
thrifts and found a Futura as well...first one I'd come across. Only
the controller came with it turns freely, powers on, rubber feed dogs
are in good shape and motor sounds strong...so for $5 it came home with
me.=20

I can figure out the threading and how to set the stitches as it's
similar to my Athena, but I can't figure out where the reverse knob is;
did yours come with a manual?
