These spam messages are so annoying. I see that Google Groups Help
explains how to limit who can post to a group. I hope it's okay with
everyone if I investigate this further.

Just forget Google access and get yourself a subscription to one of the
many connections to USENET. If you want a free one, go to
http://www.eternal-september.org/ Then you can use Thunderbird or
Outlook for a reader. Google does not control USENET, it is just a
web-based reader.

There's nothing you can do, this is a USENET group - it's not
moderated and never has been. Google Groups is simply one of the ways
you can 'read' the postings, but this group does not belong to GOOGLE.

For more info, go a google search on USENET.

The best thing you can do is get a newsreader like AGENT and use the
'kill file' feature :)

Emily is trying to get signed up now. She has AT&T, and as noted,
they're blocking any correspondence with eternal-september, so I
recommended to her that she get a Yahoo.com or Gmail email address so
that she can complete the registration. Contrary to what they seem to
believe, AT&T does not rule the world.
