Erp, I went ahead and ordered the Unique Patterns startup kit. The
measurement process looks pretty intensive, and they include details
like "Dowager's Curve," thrusting head, bowed legs, and many others.
They also request photographs to help them further tweak the program.
("Ugly face" ? "Bad hair" ? ;-) ) Given your input, I will try to
get super accurate measurements.
Regarding pattern cost, at least the first one is included in the
startup price. But get this -- it takes 6 weeks after submission
before your first pattern is ready! What the !@#?$%^&*!!?? Summer
will be over by the time I get those board shorts made...

*best innocent look* And if you had paid $25 for a Click and Sew
pattern for pants, you would have them made in no time. :)

The pattern she wanted had a yoke at the waist. Looking at the Click &
Sew info (http://www.wildginger.com/products/ClickSew1103.htm) all they
show are pants and shorts with waistbands or elastic waists. How would
she replicate what she wants using the Click & Sew system?

Take the pattern and draw it in manually? To be honest, I have no idea
exactly what, in detail, board shorts look like except that they are
loose-fitting, knee-length-I-think shorts with a drawstring waist I
think, similar to what I created for my boys with Tailor Made.

I was looking at this one she posted -
http://www.uniquepatterns.com/catalog/show/6354N1 I can't see how the
C & S pattern could do this. I would guess that she would either have
to draft the pattern from scratch, or buy a commercial pattern like this
one. But you have said that you can do anything with the WG pattern system.
