I looked all over and ended up with a brother machine that all over the
place. Ebay, amizon, Walmart and many more. It was under 200.00. NOT
digital but with plenty of stitches for me. MY last 100.00 brother
lasted 15 years.
I am pleased with everything about it except very very thin fabrics. It
even altered my chaps sewing through 2 layers of heavy leather.
The one good thing about buying at walmart is they have a 90 day return
policy. If you are not happy return it and tell them why and get your
money back. I am afraid of used machines myself I always wonder how
many hours they really have on them and why the person got rid of them.
is
If you are going to sew everyday and seriously use a machine then
increase the budget but if you are only going to use it a few hours a
month for simple tasks the less expensive ones will work fine in MY
honest opinion.

My Wal Mart return policy must be different. This week I tried to
exchange a kitchen clock that did not work, purchased just days before.
Was told to go to clock dept. and bring to serfvice center an identical
clock.....no identical clock there and reported to clerk my finding.
Was told Wal Mart could not exchange, refund, etc. without the code on
the box (which I didn't keep). BEWARE.....Dot in Tennessee.

Yes you must return things in original packaging. I make a habit of
keeping all boxes a few months.
I don't know of any stores that will take returns without original
packaging.

Marks & Spencers: for credit rather than refund, you don't always need
the receipt!
