Not quilting anything... But I have been sewing!
Skirt and Camisole for Marla's project (there's a jacket too, but at 3am
neither of us was fit to photgraph it!)

'My' classroom - the Little Teaching Room! Just big enough for six
machines and eight kids...

I still have Little Sis's floor cushions to do, and the new year brings
some uphostery work for school. There were also things like a silk
gown, a reticule, a shawl, a pleated skirt, and piles of peg bags,
totes, and Christmas Stockings to sell, 7 little Christmas puddings, 5
Christmas cakes, 7lbs of mincemeat, and this evening, a few jars of
Cranberry, orange, and red wine sauce...

Customer: Marla is a tailoring design student at The London School of
Fashion, and wanted this completed for her second year collection. She
now wants me to sew together all her final year collection! That will
be seriously nice to do.

Oh, they do. They love it when I go in, and get VERY excitied! This
time I started with 8 machines in the main classroom, buut because of
what else was going on, I had to move to the Little Teaching room. This
was great, as I started with 15 kids all day for the first day, then a
group of 8 followed by a group of 7, and then we did all the catch-ups
for the ones who were not quite finished. I also got to help with the
Christmas Parties, sorting and delivering the Christmas post from the
boxes in the classrooms (couple of hundred cards in each box! madness
in a school of 115 kids!), and choked the hoover on a mixture of thread,
glitter, and cake! :D Then I got to present stockings (now with candy
canes and chocolate money in) at the final assembly. We finished at
lunchtime yeasterday.
Then I discovered that I'd been doing this 'illegally' for the last five
years! I'm NOT a member of the General Teaching Council (it was set up
*after* I left my last [part time] post). Even though I'm only teaching
about 15-20 hours PER YEAR, because I'm planning and delivering lessons
that are part of the National Curriculum, and getting paid as a supply
teacher to do so, I have to be a member, aparantly. I don't think it
occurred to either the school or to me that I needed to be a member...
Oh, well: no punishment ensues, but it's best to regularise the
situation and join up. It'll cost me £33 a year, mind: no discounts for
part-times!

Sorry, I failed to interpret the "Marla" correctly, I
thought it might be a British pattern company. How fabulous
to be working with a newly minted designer. Are you

Yikes! Well at least the cost isn't £1,000 per year! And
they didn't ask you to pony up for all the years you missed
paying. :-|

She might be, one day! :) She has some basic dressmaking skills, and
some tailoring construction skills, but, as she says, it's not her
strong point, and I do it so much better and quicker... I did point out
that that was only because I've done it more, and she could do it if she
really wanted. She said she'd learned a lot. But her stronger talents
are design and pattern cutting.
