Because someone posted about making roman blinds now of course I want some.
I read the directions and it makes sense, except I am not sure about the
batten part. How is it made and attached to the wall?
TIA!

Michelle, I use 1x2 board, cut to size, either painted, or I cover
it with a scrap of leftover drapery lining fabric. The shade is then
attached to the board, either with velcro tape, or stapled. I'm a fan
of stapling.
You can mount the board different ways: hang with screws or anchor
bolts drilled through the board and into the wall, or use L brackets to
support the board. One end of the L is screwed into the board, the
other end attaches to the wall, supporting the mounting board from
beneath.
The board can be placed flat and screwed directly into the wall, or
supported with the L brackets so that it just out from the wall--a good
mount if you have a windowsill which the shade has to hang out over.
You'd plan for these different mounts, and attach the shade to the
board accordingly. Eyelet screws are pushed into the mounting board on
the underside, and cords run through the eyes.
Check out some of the recommended instruction sites for details on
eyelets, rings, and stringing the cording. It's not as complicated as
it sounds.
Lightweight Roman blinds can be hung from curtain rods. On an
insulated metal door, where I did not want to drill holes, I bought two
magnetized curtain rods, made rod pockets on the roman shades, and hung
them on the rods. HTH.

That is a cool idea but how did you raise them? I am not good at picturing
things.LOL!

It can be hard to picture some things; I think Bev just posted a
good site for you to check out.
A series of small nylon cord rings are sewn to the shade back, (or
ring tape, or the cord channel which was mentioned in another post);
cording is run through the rings--with my shade, the cord was run
top-to-bottom, with all cords gathering to the left of the shade top,
underneath.
O---the metal door-- I don't much raise the shades on the metal door,
because I don't use the door--it's in a corner of the sunroom.
Occasionally, I lift the lower magnetized rod up about half-way or 3/4
up, and plop it back on the door. You get sort of a bloused-billowy
long valence look. I can't remember if I actually strung that shade
with rings/cord, and I'm too lazy to go check--ithe door is behind a
couple of fake ficus trees.

I'm not sure what the "batten" is of which you speak. ;-)
Have you seen this site:
