While there is no excuse whatsoever for beating a child, it is quite obvious
this man had some sort of mental illness. All to often these people slip
through the cracks because people are afraid or simply choose to ignore
them. I am sure there was behavior previous to this, not as extreme, that if
someone just noticed and took the time to help the man perhaps this tragedy
could have been avoided.
