I just got my Lion Brand Yarn Email, and it had a link to a video about men
knitting, it was really good.

Dear Doug and Michelle,

The most famous knitter in the world is a man (Kaffe Fassett), and
sailors (men) invented knitting. I went to a King Tut exhibit some
forty years ago, and what dazzled me the most wasn't all the gold and
precious jewels--it was a knitted glove made of linen. It's a very old
craft, much older than we know, I think.

I would call him a famous knitter, (he does have a special way with
colors) but not the most famous in the world. I personally would
give that title to Elizabeth Zimmerman.....

Thanks for the link, Michelle. It was enjoyable.

You are too young to remember, but I'm pretty sure American football player
Rosie Grier [definately a man] knitted back in the 60's or 70's. And back
in the really old days [early 20th C] my grandpa from England was a great
knitter, crocheter and sock darner.

Unfortunately I don't have any male knitters in my family now - they'd
probably be better/faster than me! But I'm always proud of my 20 y.o. DS
who is a fearless sew-er [sewer never looks right!] He comes up with great
projects and alterations and does his own mending.

Sheila in Calgary - where it's a pleasant and Christmasy-looking +2 'C
today.

Many of us on here follow the example of Teri Jones (retired professor
of fashion design and construction) and refer to ourselves as sewISTS

Olwyn Mary in New Orleans.
