(1) you need a roller foot. I find mine indispensable, especially for
sewing on knits.

(2) it takes a very narrow zigzag, almost undetectable, but it makes a
major difference. Also, I find that I have to experiment on scraps
EVERY SINGLE TIME to find precisely which stitch, what length and width,
and how much pressure to use. Sometimes even the identical fabric but in
a different color takes a slightly different adjustment.

BTW, commiserations on having the whole brood back home. I guess they
are living on you at present, I hope you have made it clear that when
you are old and broke................They OWE you.

No, I am happy about it, actually (and it's only the two oldest who
moved back in; the younger two have been here all the time). Remember,
I homeschooled them all while working at home, and I couldn't stand
working at home any more once there was nobody here all day, because I
would practically suffocate from the waves of loneliness that would waft
over me all the time.

The younger two I am still getting child support for (probably when the
youngest turns 18 next year their dad will file papers to have it
terminated) and they don't pay room and board but the older two do
depending on their income and educational status. Also, I instituted a
Dinner Club program -- each person picks one night a week to purchase
and prepare dinner for the entire family. This is a distinct advantage
for everybody, because they fix dinner for everybody one night a week
and have dinner fixed for them four other nights per week, and that also
means that there aren't four or five people in the kichen every night
making their own meal and messing up their own dishes. A good deal all
the way around.

As far as owing me, they already know that I sacrificed a good-paying
job and lots of other things to stay home with them and homeschool them
so they would have more options open to them in life, and they do not
take my letting them stay here for granted. I am truly blessed.
Besides, (a) I am already old, and (b) once I stop getting child
support, I will be broke again LOL.

Doing a "ruboff" of an existing garment that fits well usually isn't too
time consuming... see:

Have you checked the listings at http://www.paccprofessionals.org ?

I know how to do it. I just don't have the energy to do it all in one
fell swoop after working 60-70-hour work weeks, and I don't have the
space to leave out my portable table I do cutting on for overnight with
all my no-longer-small fry having moved back in (if you know my alter
ego in real life behind the name I use here that a stalker can't trace
me under, you will be shocked to know that they not range in age from
17-1/2 to 26) to be able to further their education to get better jobs.

My last-ditch option will be to take paid vacation time off from work to
do it. Not my first choice, because all my work gets saved for me to do
when I get back as there is nobody else there with my specialized skills
set who can do my job, but it is an option.

Unfortunately, everybody is at least a commute bottleneck away, and for
the time that would take it's just as hard (but more expensive) than
doing it myself.

I'm just sort of venting. I have been over and over this problem for
years and keep getting to the point of wanting to rip my hair out.

At least this time I am getting responses from people who are actually
experienced in what I need. Another option would be to bite the bullet
and go see one of them, but the fatigue factor is a big one right now.
I still am hopeful that maybe someone a little closer will respond.

Might it help if you made up and printed out a similar pattern in PMB
then took a few crucial comparative measurements? I am currently
working on something similar in a top, but got sidelined by this
wretched bug..
