I'm not having, and never had, much luck finding a pattern for a man's
mandarin style jacket.
Does anyone know of anything?

Have you looked here:

Maybe #114 "Chinese Jacket" would do, you'd have to re-size it
for a man? Or, describe what you mean by "...a man's mandarin
style jacket."

Nah, none of those are the style, though I have one of those patterns
I'm thinking about doing.
Something like this:

Though I'd probably adapt it to something more of a western tail.
I saw a waiter in a chinese restaurant that had exactly what I wanted
one time. Maybe I need to go to a chinese restaurant supply house and
check out their uniforms.

Maybe if you look for a "Retro Sixties"
style ... a Nehru jacket might be a
starting point if you are confident
about pattern modification. A Vintage
Bell Hop jacket might work too.

I searched on "Nehru Jacket", too but didn't find any patterns.
