Kate,
This might just be a tabloid rumor. But today as I was manually casing
flats(lg envelopes, newspapers, mags etc) I saw a tabloid headline about the
Queen naming Prince William as King. Since I've seen nothing in the regular
news outlets about it I assume that it is as yet unofficial or an outright
fabrication.
What is your take on this?

Foreign tabloid rumour, worth everything you paid for it.

She couldn't name William as King unless she abdicated. She hasn't done
that and won't given the way her mother blamed the abdication of her Uncle
on the early death of her father. She'd only abdicate if she was somehow
incapacitated and all those I know who have met her say she still has a mind
like a steel trap. Even then, she'd need to have an overwhelming reason to
bypass Charles.

And I'm not sure she could do that unless he was mentally incapacitated,
and maybe not even then. We'll just have to hope she outlives them both!
Or the law gets changes so we can have Anne next! NOT that she'd than
anyone for that...

:-)) Can't see it happening.
One interesting thing which you might like to remember down the track is
something I once saw from an Indian psychic. Many, many years ago, while
Charles was still fancy free and chasing ladies of older and more mature
years than Di turned out to be and while poor Di was still in swaddling
clothes, there he (the Indian chap) predicted that the next ruler of Britain
would be called William. I remember it distinctly as did someone who worked
for me years later as both of us had thought at the time when we read it,
"William? Who the heck is William?"

Yes, I'd be all for her being the next Monarch.
