Hello, I'm in a jam and I'm sure I must just be missing something since
I've never used an embroidery machine before. I just got a new Singer
XL 6000 and I've used the sewing machine part just fine, but now I want
to try to embroider, I've got the base on fine and I see the embroidery
jazz on the computer screen, but when I try to fill an empty bobbin
(special) with thread via the lower continuous winding mechanism, the
machine keeps telling me there is no thread on the spool. But it's
brand new 90 bobbin thread, I don't know what to do, I can't do
anything until I figure this out, please help! Thank you ahead of
time...

If I'm not understanding your problem, sorry! It sounds to me
like you are attempting to use the "endless bobbin winder"
feature with the "regular" bobbin? Can't be done. You have to
use the special bobbin with the tiny gear underneath. And be
sure there is *no thread* caught in the center/axel of the
bobbin. AND follow the threading instructions *exactly*, using
the gray plastic guide, to lead the endless bobbin *thread* into
the proper thread path. It takes (or at least for me it took)
several attempts to get the bobbin thread properly inserted in
all the little guides, but once you do it right, the re-winding
of the "endless bobbin" is a terrific feature. You might want to
wander over to alt.sewing.mach-embroider, that group has many
very experienced machine embroidery participants. Or, e-mail me
at beidesign [at] comcast dot net to take this off group.

HTH,

Beverly, who loves the XL5000, but struggled at first getting the
endless bobbin to wind properly.

Thanks for your reply. No, I was trying to use the endless bobin with
my embroidery and I did figure out what went wrong. There is a small
metal area in the spare bobbin thread area and I had read the manual
and watched the movie but it wasn't clear enough for me to see that not
only was my thread supposed to go behind it and up but that it also
needed to go in between two metal parts! I figiured it out only by
trying to do it wrong! Silly isn't it! I seem to be okay now although I
tend to still have tension issues and the automatic threaders also
don't seem to always thread completely wen I am switching colors during
embroidery, but last night I did complete a two color flower, which I
was pretty excited about! Thank you so much HTH!

OK, glad I didn't just add to your problem! ;-)

The manual which came with my XL5000 is absolutely, without
question, the most poorly written d____d thing I've ever had to
deal with! I don't know why, with a machine in this price range
they couldn't have had the thing proofed by someone fluent in
English *and* sewing. And don't even get me started on the
manual which is provided with the PSW 2.0a software package... I
swear, it was translated into Korean from the original Greek, and
then into English by someone proficient in Spanglish. ;-þ

Be sure you are threading the left-hand thread into the "A" route
(rear), and the right hand one into the "B" route (front). I
haven't used the auto changing feature, since I always baby-sit
the machine while I'm embroidering, so I'm not sure what issue
there may be with the auto thread-changer.

You're welcome! (BTW, "HTH" = Hope That Helps. I'm "Beverly".)
;->
Do ask if you run up against other problems. I've only been
using my machine for about a year, so I'm no expert, but I do
love the danged thing!
