The 'catching mechanism' is called the 'hook,' and it's right where
it's supposed to be. The timing might be off, but the hook is there.

My vintage Elna's do NOT like any stray thread caught in the
hook/bobbin area, so make sure that area is completely cleaned out.

hi again

show/hide quoted text
I don't think the timing is wrong - the hook passes the needle just as they
pass each other - and there is no wear there at all

show/hide quoted text

Well - I have removed a lot of "dust", 4 broken needles etc etc :-) - but if
I could figure out how the hook catches the lower thread - or should do - I
think I culd fix the error...

best regards /ti

the upper/needle thread.

If I were this guy's "woman" he wouldn't get within 50 feet
of any of my "fine mechanics". And I do understand English
is probably not his first language, but he could actually
look at the provided links. Furrfu...

hi out there - somewhere

show/hide quoted text
hmmm - is this the common language and net-ethic in the net in this area? -
but if you start with a problem described in danish (thats the common and
natural language in a small country named Denmark in the northern europa) -
translate it with googles machine translator - take a quick look and press
"send" it is easy to miss a lot of spelling errors and wrong terms - which
might offend some - but I normally express myself - or at least I try - in a
way so that I don't need to be emberassed to sign my contributions with my
name. But I am glad and happy for all tips, tricks and help I get when I
have a problem which I try to get some help with on the net...

best regards /Thomas Iwang

I did acknowledge that you were probably not an English
speaker, and that might contribute to your referring to your
"wife"(?) as your "woman" in your original message. Pardon
me for taking offense, that's not a common usage here.

I checked your headers and determined that you were posting
from .dk, and I made some mental allowances for that. But I
posted a message several messages up in this thread pointing
you to a link which shows how the hook works, and yet you
persisted in writing about the hook catching the bottom
(bobbin) thread. I assumed you were either ignoring the
information on that site or didn't understand it. My
apologies for the snarky comment on your language skills,
your English is 100% better than my Danish.

I also sign my real name:
