The luscious bronze frock is almost finished! I need to stitch the bow
on, put some curtain weights in the hem to keep that tiny trainlet out
where it ought to be at the back, and trim the loose ends of the
skinniest spaghetti straps in the world off, and give it a bit more of a
press. And that's it! Pick-up tomorrow.
My alterations (she lost weight after I made up the silk!) were perfect,
and the zip came out and went in again like a dream - not always easy
with a consealed zip! The frock will go up on the web site at the
weekend, when the hubby person is here to sort it out. The bride, her
mum, and the lovely bridesmaid all think the frock is fantastic. I'm
fairly pleaded with it: one of the best of this year's crop! No trying
to tailor silk dupion (Grr! Argh! Never again!), nor make something
crisp drape, or something too floppy and soft look crisp! And all the
pattern bits fitted nicely - no sleeve head patterns with too much ease,
and no falling on the floor like poly satin! :)
I need to find something other than Front Page for my web site page
building, as that's no longer supported by my web host/ISP. :( It
means Alan has to work miracles in the back-ground, uploading pix and
text separately and in individual units, which is a pain. I used to be
able just to click and publish! Wah! I want something as easy to use
as Front Page, but possibly a bit more versatile...

Woo hoo for the frock!
may suggest dreamweaver?
when contemplating setting up a "real" website (as opposed to geocities) I
had a play with it and managed to come up with something nice without too
many problems (and no manual)

I'll certainly look into it. I want something easy as I don't want to
spend too long revamping the whole blessed thing!

Dear Kate,
Can't wait to see the gown this weekend. In the meantime, I saw
Kenneth King (my idol) on someone's program a month or two ago, and he
said that all the ease needed in a sleeve is 1-1/2 inches. He measured
the armhole, then measured the sleeve. He slashed the sleeve down the
center, and overlapped it until all that was left was the 1-1/2 inches.
I happened to be working on a jacket at the time, and tried it. The
sleeve was perfect. So, now I measure everything that way.

I had 2 1/2" + on those blessed Vogue patterns! No way even to shrink a
wool that much, never mind easing in the bloody dupion! Thanks for that
tip - I shall use it in future.
I hate the front of one of those jackets too: nearly as much ease there
in the princess seam/dart! Madness...
