I notice the same thing here in Canada from some local shops.
I figure out how much fabric I need in meters. Then if I end up
ordering it by Internet from the US, they sell by the yard and I
have to figure everything out all over again. Working in meters
is so much easier than figuring yards, feet and inches.

That shouldn't be so hard. Just add 10% to your length to order by the
yard.

yabut - then I have to figure out the lengths of where to cut etc. Easy
when everything is tenths/hundredths of a meter, but I don't have any
measuring devices that show similar for yards - only feet, inches etc.
E.g. 1.5m divided by four is 37.5 cm and I can find that exactly on my
metric measuring tape. In yards, that 1.5x1.1 = 1.65 y divided by four
is, ummm, 0.4125 y and that has to be changed to inches before I can
use the measuring tape. Gimme metric anyday.

Its funny how in school they taught only the metric system......but then
when I got out into the "real world" alot of things were not metric. So I
just don't notice anymore. Joy of being canadian I guess lol

I wouldn't bother. I'd cut the entire length, and then fold it in
fourths to find where to cut. But then again, for such things I am
definitely too lazy to measure.
