Oh I am so very tempted to write something along the lines of: "You won't get much sympathy in your hunt: People who use a machine that takes needles that can only be bought in a large job lot will have to take responsibility, pay more, or whatever.", but I will refrain.
Thanks for your restraint. I've read your posts here; you should use it more often. JPBill
farmI I am not aquainted with the above mentioned machine. But i am aquainted with the problem , of finding a sewing machine , after my other one went to machine`s heaven, that will fit my sewing needs, as well as my pocket `s abilities. Not all places sell all machines. When i lived years ago in Boston , i went to buy a machine, because we knew that we are going back , we looked for a Machine that was adaptable to our electricity, the Shop keeper of the Famous sewing machine maker promised it was Ok ,,,, Only when we traveled home , did we find out that OUR Model wasn`t adaptable ,,,,, brrrr Farml, Sometimes people can only buy, what they can find,,,, Bill could you tell me the name or number or type or anything that is written on your needles` box , and i will look around, if i can find it i can send it to you ,,it is only a tiny envelope ,,, mirjam
Mirjam,
Thanks for your offer. A Merrow machine is a flat-out industrial machine for serging/finishing the edges of things or make seams all day long and at high speed. Think of your serger on steroids. They were one of the earliest overcast machines (1838), to the degree that the term "merrowing" became generic, like "Kleenex" did for tissues. They are still an industry leader in textile machinery, run by the Merrow family.
Some, like mine, found their way into homes. I'm not a power sewer by any means and don't "deserve" it, but I can't resist old mechanically superior machines to resurrect and gave new life. These machines typically run 2000, 3000 and up to 4000 stitches per minute, depending on the stitch. A real rush to operate if you're a speed freak!
The needles are curved like an upholsterers needle and readily available, but suppliers sell to factories who have rows of machines and buy needles in quantity, hence my "problem" with supply. So I thought I'd give the group a shot in the off-chance someone out there is as weird as I am about machinery and might have some to sell.
Sorry for the long post; we all have out addictions, don't we?

I agree with you, Farml.
Farml, Sometimes people can only buy, what they can find,,,, _______________________________
I was objecting to Bill's lack of sensitivity to one of our regulars who was clearly upset. He could have said the same thing in a much nicer way. Others did.
He wants help. Given what he wrote, even if I had known where he could get the needles, I wouldn't have told him.
Three words: Pot, Kettle, Black.
On the same day, you ask for help to find your needles and then turn round and in the very next post you insult a regular poster who is clearly feeling very upset. If you want help, then it would be politic to be nice. You weren't.
Farmi i appologise to YOU , please accept it , mirjam
Bill i will look around , because i promised , But
Even if it is only for the idea , i don`t have a serger . thus i only can imagine what you mean. When i needed a new machine, i knew that i wanted it to sew + be able to zigzag finnish my woven cloth , thus i looked for a Strong machine, but also for one i could afford. found my machine and work with it ,,, Nothing like you describe ,,
Thank you for the History lesson , it is always interesting .
Nice that you gave new life to an old machine , but superior ???? any machine is superior to it`s owner, once they are working well together!!!!!
Maybe this Capeabilities were important to the factories or industry , but i would be afraid to use such a thing , i need to look and think and at times ponder about some of my stitches ,,, Maybe in my far family they used such machines for embroidery, can`t tell you more as they were all murdered , i only heard a story or two about those people.
If those needles are still manufactured you could try and trace the maker !!! if not have you industry ? I never saw a Curved Machinal needle , but i will ask when i walk [anyway it`s on my way ] , by the shop ..
Excuse me ???? mirjam
Farm is right; my remarks were intemperate and uncalled for as a response to her call for a boycott of Comcast for their policy of reining in people for 100x average use of their services. Turns out she doesn't even use Comcast, but what the hey, computer problems make us want to lash out at any convenient target, don't they, including bystanders.
I apologize to her by assuming she is in the category of a heavy user. Maybe the grandson's usage caused the ISP warning; Games, graphics and downloading images takes a lot of bandwidth, but who knows?
Still looking for a kind soul to sell me a dozen Merrow needles or direct me. Like it says in the bible: "Seek and ye shall find"; "ask and it shall be given..."
JPBill
I promised that i will look for it ,,, mirjam
Have you tried emailing lindag?
Farmi i appologise to YOU , please accept it , __________________________________ :-))))) Hmmmm. I'm not at all sure why you'd want to apologise to me. You don't have any reason at all to apologise to me as you have done nothing and written nothing to which I could object. But thank you anyway.
Because maybe it wasn`t kind of me to tell you that one can`t find everything , everywhere ,, thus i apologized if my note was unkind to you ,,, _________________
I didn't take your comment as being unkind so there is no need to apologise to me. Your comment was simply accurate. I'd doubt that any of us can find all the things we'd like or need in our various locations. Most us us have to either compromise or hunt for many of the things we all need or use.
