Hi

I have an old pfaff 232 machine. Works very nicely, but the pedal has
burned out. Looks like a resistor or capacitor has gotten too hot.
Smells horrible. Still works a bit but starts sewing at the lowest
speed as soon as I switch the power on.

Can this be fixed or easily replaced? The plug can be easily removed
from the cord - I am just not sure whether the workings of these pedal
are standard or model specific.

Did you contact Ron Anderson? He offered his expertise (and
he *is* an expert) in response to your
rec.crafts.textiles.sewing message.

there's also a yahoo group "old pfaff pforum" specifically for the
machines.Fairly active- you ask a question and there's plenty of
opinion on how to fix and where to get parts. Pat

Thanks for the tip! I found an answer in the archives of the old pfaff
forum. Lots of useful stuff there (like manuals).

The burned out component in my foot pedal is just a capacitor. It is
connected across the contacts to
prevent the little sparks when the power is connected. This is just to
prevent interference with other electrical items like TV's and radios.
The problem is that
when it burns out it conducts electricity and so the machine starts
running.

The solution is to just cut the component out! Working fine
again. Although I think it would be nice if these components had an
earth...
