That is correct. An awful lot of inexperienced people force it the wrong way
and break off the screw end of the bobbin winder driver.

That certainly would have included me, were I attempting it.
I always have to stop and think which way Nikkor lenses
screw off the camera body, it's the same non-intuitive way.
What's up with that?

Can't say why a lens would be like that. On machines it is to counter
centrifugal force.. If they screwed on the other way they could loosen with
use.
