Junque? ;-)
I wonder if people who buy those really, REALLY low-end
"sewing machines" (using that term VERY loosely) have the
same mind-set when they buy a car... or TV.... or audio
system.

I can't answer for others, but the main reason I bought this one was to
have something serviceable upstairs....my main machine (a good Singer,
I've had for years) is in the basement.
Our car is a PT Cruiser and is one of the most comfortable cars on a
long trip. Our TV is 52" Samsung.

I was recently given a Singer Featherweight 100: I think it comes
into this bracket. 15w motor, no light, and the NOISIEST machine I
own! It sews. It doesn't sew badly. I couldn't say it sews *well*,
and the buttonholes are all but unusable. It has no light. But one
of the kids will love it, and shall use it until it dies.
When I want a sewing machine for taking with me somewhere, I grab one
of the Elnas, a Frister & Rossman cub 4, or the 'real' Singer
featherweight.
