My order from the reincarnation of Croft Mill came today! YIPPEEEE!!!!
Oh, Frabjus day!
Breathe in.... Breathe out.... Breathe in.... Breathe out....
(Giggle)
OK, what came?
3m of 60" wide 'dirty beige' linen that turns out to be a beautiful
mixture of coffee warp threads and light fawn weft threads... Once
chucked through the wash, this will make a perfect sideless gown or
something to pair with my chocolate linen that I dyed a year or so back:
this will be a cheap and cheerful way of doing a nice 'working woman's'
mediaeval outfit... Along the lines of a decent town merchant or the
like. This chunk cost me £12.
Then there was a lovely soft but strong bit of cotton mesh. Someone on
my corset making group made a mesh corset out of Ada. I thought this
cotton mesh might do for a similar experiment. One of the museums or
collections I saw recently had a red mesh corset from the 20's on it,
and I thought that might be fun to do. Summer breeze corset! £5 for the
two metres...
Then there was the mixed bundle of odd bits. A Bargain Bale in no
uncertain terms! Croft Mill were always so good at these: never
anything totally unusable, though I do have some very odd bits from past
bundles! This one is treasure indeed... £7 for all of the following bits:
First a metre and a bit of lemon yellow broiderie anglaise in
polycotton. Bag lining or similar... Or a cute baby outfit for my
neighbours brand new cherub.
A couple of metres of a lovely quality cotton check: bit table-cloth-y
in pattern, but a nice cloth. I might try overdying this bit as it's a
bit ordinary... Dull reds on a natural cotton background in 2" checks
like narrow ribbons woven in and out. Just a little prosaic for my
tates and those of Himself. But the cloth is a wonderful quality.
About a metre and a half of 60" wide good quality poly chiffon... Hm...
I might try making my party frock out of this again, just because...
The £5 party frock strikes again! And most of that would be lining and
zip. :D
A good 3m of a poly/wool/viscose suiting in a generous houndstooth black
and cerise check! Startling but lovely! Enough for a suit, though I
probably wouldn't wear this head to toe! Check jacket and plain skirt
or trousers, or check skirt and plain jacket, probably. It feels
lovely, and fully lined it won't make me itch. Now the big question is:
Do I design a jacket for this, or dig a pattern out of the loft? Is the
check too big for my Vintage Vogue 1940's suit jacket pattern? Needs
more thinking, this does.
Total, with P&P, was £34.45. Not a bad haul.

Is it still possible to go and buy from them or is it mail order only -
I used to keep falling off their mailing list because I would go to
their bricks and mortar store rather than mail ordering :-(

Mail order only as far as I know. They are now housed in another
building as well, so whether or not they will ever have a drop-in
facility as well I do not know.

Thanks Kate, I'll have to wait until the website comes up and see what's
what then.

black houndstooth.
Congratualtions!
